Hij realiseerde een mooie carrière met 37 overwinningen. In 1966 stopte hij en hij werd bloemist in het Brabantse Huybergen. Een mooie zaak had hij, maar privé zat het hem niet mee. Zijn vrouw kreeg de vreselijke ziekte MS en ze raakte aan het bed gekluisterd en zelf lijdt hij de laatste jaren aan darmkanker. Na een lang verblijf in het ziekenhuis is hij nu in goede handen. Jo de Haan is geen gemakkelijke man en als voormalig topwielrenner was hij jarenlang moeilijk benaderbaar, maar laat iedereen die deze prachtige stilist heeft zien rijden vandaag even aan hem denken.
